The Good News of Jesus comes with a price in Afghanistan as followers of Christ live under the shadow of constant persecution for their faith. But many of these Christians choose to follow the Great Commission anyway, which encourages them to share the Gospel with others, despite the risk to their health and security.
One such Christ follower is Lala Zeeshan, a Muslim-background believer (MBB) who chose to be baptized two years ago. He is no stranger to threats and violent acts that come from the decision to place his faith in Jesus.
Says Nehemiah with Forgotten Missionaries International (FMI), “His arm and one of his ribs were broken due to persecution by members of a former faith community, Islam, and there was a Muslim extremist who wanted to kill him. Even then he chose to publicly declare his faith in Jesus.”
Despite the attack, Lala served steadfastly with FMI, handing out audio Bibles throughout Afghanistan, until just recently.
“During the current Audio Bible distribution campaign in Afghanistan, Lala Zeeshan was brutally attacked by extremists because of his involvement in sharing God’s word,” reports Nehemiah.
LaLa’s serious injuries include multiple stab wounds to his abdominal region.
Local medical facilities had limited ability to give the care Lala required. They gave him the best emergency attention they could and then transported him to another country for treatment to receive a higher level of care. By the grace of God, Lala survived the attempted murder.
Nehemiah says the attack on Lala needs prompt prayer from the church worldwide, not just for the recovery of Lala, but also for the perseverance and protection of the Christians serving the Lord under continuous threat.
Lord Jesus, we the Church, Your beloved ones, bow our heads to pray together around the world. We honor and lift up Your name; You are our Savior, Redeemer, and Rescuer! You will keep every promise You have made to us in Your word. We praise you for the life of our brother,Lala, and how You allowed him to survive the repeated attacks on his life. We pray the news of his miraculous recovery and mighty testimony would draw thousands to You.
May the Bible distributions in Afghanistan be unstoppable and fruitful for the Kingdom of God. In the all powerful name of Jesus, we pray. Amen! “…I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”—Matthew 16:18
